Terms of use

Draft: to be reviewed by a lawyer before launch. Until then, these terms describe how Ekimeet works, but they are not final.

These terms are the agreement between you and us when you use Ekimeet. We wrote them to be read. The privacy notice and the community rules are part of them.

Who we are

Ekimeet is a professional network for researchers, engineers and students, grown through events.

Ekimeet is built and run by Meisam Taheri, an independent developer in Norway.

When these terms say “we” or “us”, they mean the person or business named above.

The service

Ekimeet helps you join events, meet the right people there after a mutual yes, and keep in touch afterwards. It also has posts, an events directory, job posts and coffee chats. It is free for attendees.

We may change, add or remove features. When a change affects you, we say so on What's new.

Your account and age

You must be at least 16 to use Ekimeet. If you are 16 or 17, you can message only people you matched with at an event, and your own team.

Use your own name and your own work, and keep your account to yourself. You are responsible for what is done with your account. Tell us if you think someone else has used it.

Acceptable use

Follow the community rules. In short: both say yes before contact, be who you say you are, stay professional, and don't use Ekimeet for spam, selling, harassment or anything unlawful.

Don't try to get around blocks, limits or safety features, collect other people's data, or use bots or scrapers.

Read the community rules

What you post

What you write and upload stays yours. You let us store it and show it to the people you chose, only to run Ekimeet. This ends when you delete it or your account, except where the law requires us to keep something.

Public posts can be seen by anyone on the web and by search engines, with your name. Post only what you have the right to share.

We may hide or remove content that breaks the rules or the law. We tell you why, and you can appeal.

How we handle your data: the privacy notice

If you host events

You are responsible for your event: that it is lawful, that what you say about it is true, and that it is a safe place. Every published event has a safety contact from your team whom attendees can reach.

Use what you see about attendees only to run your event. A person checks a new organization before its first event goes live.

No paid reach

Nobody can pay to be shown higher, to reach more people or to appear in your suggestions, and there are no made-up scores on profiles. This is a promise in these terms.

Availability and changes

We work to keep Ekimeet running, but we can't promise it is always available or free of errors, for example during maintenance or when something breaks.

If we change these terms, the date at the top changes and What's new says what changed. For important changes, we tell you before they apply. If you don't agree, you can download your data and delete your account at any time.

Ending, suspensions and appeals

You can delete your account at any time under Me → Your data.

If someone breaks the rules, we may warn them, remove content, remove them from an event or suspend the account. A person decides, never an automatic system. You get a notice saying what was decided, who decided and why, and you can appeal each decision once. The Ekimeet team reviews appeals.

How reports and appeals work

Responsibility

Ekimeet helps people meet, but we are not part of the conversations, meetings, events or jobs that come out of it. Use your own judgement, and meet in public places.

We are responsible for harm we cause on purpose or through gross negligence. Otherwise, as far as the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect loss, such as lost profit or data you didn't keep elsewhere.

Nothing in these terms limits your rights as a consumer under Norwegian or EU law.

Law and disputes

Norwegian law applies to these terms. If something goes wrong, write to us first; we want to sort it out. Consumers in Norway can also get help from Forbrukerrådet (the Norwegian Consumer Council), and disputes go to the Norwegian courts. If you live elsewhere in the EU, you keep the protection of your own country's consumer law.
