Short answers to common questions, each with a link to where you do it.
Account and sign-in
How do I sign in?
With ORCID, GitHub or Google, with a passkey, or with a 6-digit code we send to your email. There is no password to remember.
I didn't get the code
Look in your spam or junk folder, and mark the email “Not spam” so the next one lands in your inbox. It can take a minute. Check the address for typos too. A code works for 10 minutes; after that, ask for a new one.
Why sign in with ORCID or GitHub?
Your card can then fill itself with your papers and repositories, and they show as your own work. It also verifies your account, so you can start conversations with your matches and connections at any time, not only during an event.
What is a passkey?
A passkey lets you sign in with your phone's or computer's fingerprint, face or screen lock, without waiting for a code. Add one under Account & security. Signing in by email still works.
How old do I have to be?
16 or older. If you are 16 or 17, you can message only people you matched with at an event, and your own team.
Events
How do I join an event?
Scan the QR code on the poster, the slides or your badge, or type the event code on the front page. It opens in your phone's browser; no app needed. Some events ask you to request a place, or let in only people on their guest list.
How do I find events?
Explore events lists events whose organizers made them public, and other events we list from public information.
How are people suggested to me?
From your work, the topics you chose and what you are looking for at the event. Each suggestion says why, in words. You get up to ten a day at each event, and people you pass on are not shown again there. Suggestions change only what you see.
When can I message someone?
When you have both said yes: a match, a card scan you both accepted, or a team, table or chat you both joined. Signed in by email, you can write first while the event is on. Verify your account (ORCID, GitHub or a university or work email) to write at any time.
What happens after the event?
The people you met stay in your network with where you met. You can write private notes only you can see, set follow-up reminders, and get a digest: weekly, monthly or off.
People and privacy
Who can see my profile?
By default, only people at events you joined. You can widen it to all verified members, or add a public page if you are 18 or older. Recruiters see you only if you turn that on.
Who sees my posts?
You choose for each post: Connections: the people you are connected with. This is the default. People at my events: people from the events you joined. Public: anyone on the web, and search engines, with your name. Only if you are 18 or older and have a public profile page. Comments and likes stay with your connections.
What does blocking do?
You become invisible to each other everywhere on Ekimeet: suggestions, attendee lists, search, chat and the feed. They are not told. You can unblock under Me → Blocked people.
How do I report someone?
Open their profile or the chat and choose Report. At an event, Get help also shows you the safety contact. Nobody is told who reported. A person reviews every report, and you get a notice when it has been reviewed. Anyone a decision is about hears why and can appeal once.
Organizers
How do I host an event?
Create your organization and the event, name a safety contact, and publish. A person checks a new organization before its first event goes live.
Why does my event need a safety contact?
Attendees need someone to turn to if something goes wrong. The safety contact is a person on your organization's team. Get help shows them to everyone at the event, and they review reports with our moderators.
Who can join my event?
You choose: anyone with the join code; people who ask to join, when you approve them; people on your invite list; or invitation only.
How does check-in at the door work?
Open door mode on a phone and scan each guest's ticket. One tap checks someone in, with undo. Door team members see only what they need at the door.
Can others help me run an event?
Yes. In the event's settings, add a co-organizer, a door team member or a moderator for that event only, by the email of their Ekimeet account. Helpers must be 18 or older, and they are told when they are added or removed.
What do organizers see about attendees?
Who joined and who checked in, and counts, such as how many matches were made. Never who matched whom, and never private messages.
Your data
How do I download my data?
Go to Me → Your data and choose Download all my data. You get everything about you in one file.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Me → Your data and choose Delete my account. It happens at once, with no email needed. Reports and moderation records are kept without your name, and the audit log keeps the fact that an account was deleted.
Where is my data stored?
In Europe, on a server in Germany. Backups are encrypted and kept with a second European provider. We don't sell data or show ads.
